(Updated date: Mar. 28, 2025)
The 10th Workshop on the Chemistry of the Heaviest Elements (CHE10) will be held in 7th –11th Sep. 2025 in Dunhuang, China, which provides a platform for communication and exchange of ideas and experiences in experiment and theory on the Chemistry of the Heaviest Elements.
The first CHE Workshop took place in 1991 in Grossbothen. Since then, the meetings of this series have been organized in Solothurn (1993), Mainz (1995), Stenungsund (1997), Hasliberg (2001), Oslo (2005), Mainz (2009), Takayama (2013) and Ascona (2017).
The CHE10 is organized by
- Institute of Modern Physics (IMP), Chinese Academy Sciences
- Division of Nuclear Chemistry and Radiochemistry, Chinese Chemical Society & Chinese Nuclear Society
Scope
This workshop will focus on the recent developments in experimental and theoretical aspects of the chemical properties of heavy actinide and transactinide elements, as well as the synthesis of superheavy elements, nuclear reactions, atomic properties, radioisotopes and related topics. The scientific program will consist of invited talks, oral presentations selected on the basis of submitted abstracts. All topics in the scope of this workshop will be discussed and we ask for submission of contributions.

Abstract submission
Abstracts are directly entered into the CHE10 website (Click here to navigate >>>). Abstract submission is open from April 01, to July 01, 2025. Abstracts should be submitted through the workshop website.
Venue
The workshop takes place in Dunhuang, a renowned historical and cultural city, which is located in the northwest of Gansu province, China. It is accessible by high-speed rail and international flights.
Our workshop venue is “Dunhuang Hotel” (Address: No.151.Middle Yangguan Road, Dunhuang, Gansu Province, P. R. China) in Dunhuang city. It is 11 km from Dunhuang Railway station, and 12 km from the Dunhuang Mogao International Airport. And you will be picked up from the Dunhuang airport to the hotel.
Here are some key travel tips for visiting Dunhuang in September:
1. Weather & Clothing
Temperature: Warm days (20-28°C / 68-82°F) but cooler nights (10-15°C / 50-59°F).
Pack: Light layers for daytime, a jacket/sweater for evenings, sunglasses, and a wide-brimmed hat for sun protection.
Footwear: Comfortable walking shoes (especially for the sand dunes and hiking).
2. Sun & Desert Protection
Strong UV rays: Use high-SPF sunscreen, lip balm, and reapply often.
Dust & wind: Bring a scarf or mask (sandstorms can occur).
Hydration: Carry water—dry climate increases dehydration risk.
3. Cultural & Practical Tips
Respect local customs: No flash photography in Mogao Caves.
Cash & payments: Some remote areas may prefer cash (though cards/WeChat Pay are widely accepted).
Altitude: Dunhuang is ~1,200m above sea level—no major altitude sickness risk, but take it easy if sensitive.
4. Transportation
Getting there: Direct flights from major cities (Beijing, Xi’an) or high-speed train via Liuyuan South Station (then 1.5-hour shuttle to Dunhuang).
Local transport: Taxis are affordable; rent a bike for short trips.
Accommodation
The Dunhuang Hotel offers different room types: 1. Single Room from 450 CNY/Day, 780 CNY/Day to 980 CNY/Day, with single breakfast. 2. Standard Room – twin bed, 580 CNY/Day, with two breakfasts. You may specify your room preferences during the registration process, or alternatively inform us via email (che10@impcas.ac.cn). The workshop dates coincide with Dunhuang’s high season for tourism, so please attention that it has to be booked before August. 2025. Please note that room types are subject to availability. We'll make every effort to assign you the most appropriate accommodation.
Visas
International participants must obtain a Chinese visa before entry into China, with the exception of visa-free countries, which are based on relevant agreements or regulations. It is strongly recommended that participants apply for visas at least 3 months prior to the conference. The applicants should contact the Chinese consulate to determine the wait time for an interview. Additional information on gaining business visas is available at Chinese consulate or local travel agencies.
Invitation Letters
If you do not submit an abstract and will be a registered scientist attending the meeting, please contact us to request a letter of invitation by email che10@impcas.ac.cn. Please apply for the invitation as soon as possible. If you have submitted an accepted abstract for presentation, a letter of invitation is available online for every author.
